ON BEING

Four tasks for personal peace

Dr. Ira Byock, a leading figure in palliative care and hospice in the United States, was a recent guest on On Belief, the NPR show with host Krista Tippit where he  talked about his work with hospice care. Byock suggested there are four simple tasks one can address in the Third Age to achieve peace: say to those around you

I forgive you

Please forgive me

Thank you

I love you.

You can find the interview at

http://being.publicradio.org/programs/2012/contemplating-mortality/

There you will also find an excerpt from a Fresh Air interview with Maurice Sendak, writer of books for children, posted on the On Being blog where he gives his reflection on ageing and death. He says “it is a blessing to get old. It is a blessing to find time to do the things, to read the books, to listen to the music”

On Being is heard in my area on NPR Sunday at 6 pm and the show and web site are highly recommended.
